Q: A bicycle which normally sells for $215 is on sale today at 30% off, and another bicycle which normally sells for $260 is on sale today at 50% off. If the Shulak family purchases both bicycles today, what percent of the original price will they pay? Express your answer to the nearest whole number.

A: 59%

We find the price of the $215 bike, which is (100-30)% of $215:
70% of 215 = 150.5

We find the price of the $260 bike, which is (100-50)% of 260:
50% of 260 = 130

That means the family will pay $150.5 + $130 = $280.5 of the $215 + $260 = 475
280.5/475 ≈ 59.052631578% ≈ 59%
